Star Trek: The Motion Picture - Special Longer Version was a VHS release of Star Trek: The Motion Picture, first released in 1983 , featuring an extra twelve minutes of footage that was not in the theatrical cut, originating from the television version aired by ABC in that year. The VHS also formed part of the Star Trek: The Movies - 25th Anniversary Collectors Set in the US, as well as Star Trek: The Movie Collection. This edition was released in Japan in 1985 and 1989 , and the UK as a "Special Collector's Edition" in 1989 .
