During the Clone Wars, legions of volunteers served the Confederacy of Independent Systems as organic troops in the Separatist Droid Army, and sometimes the Confederate Navy. The combined strength of the legions was over a million, and they were a significant force in the Confederate military. Legions usually fought alongside droid forces, but sometimes worked with other organic units in the Confederacy, such as Neimoidians. They were formed due to large amounts of organics volunteering for service without any official formations to use them, and due to commanders' complaints about the various problems of basic battle droids.
