The game allows you to command either the USS Reliant from Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, or a Klingon L-9 Frigate (a unique FASA-designed Klingon ship, similar to the D7-class cruiser). Although the box back specifies play for two players, the rules include options for solitaire play as well. It is compatible with the Starship Duel I game for combined play. Presumably, more Starship Duel games were planned, but never produced.
