Taro Yoshihara was a cook employed by Bennett University in Singapore. While his family were initially the owners of an international restaurant chain, they fell on hard times and Yoshihara spent a significant portion of his money sending his daughter Nanan to the prestigious Marhawa Academy. When she was injured while trying to run away and subsequently vanished, the school refused to report this to him, and he was left worried for three months why she was no longer sending letters.
