River restoration is the process of restoring a damaged stream to its natural, ecologically healthy state. It may have been damaged by water pollution, channelization, or by the building of dams that impede fish migration, prevent periodic flooding, or prevent deposit of sentiment. In the United States, some progress have been made, particularly in Maine in removing dams which impede or prevent salmon runs.
