At the beginning of The Fires of Heaven, Gareth Bryne has retired to his estates in Andor. He hears the judgement against Siuan, Leane and Min(under their assumed names)and is willing to let them work for him instead of Admer Nem. When they escape, though, he leads his retainers, most of them former Queen's Guards, after them, Siuan's eyes on his mind. By the beginning of A Crown of Swords, Gareth Bryne is commanding the armies of the rebel Aes Sedai faction from Salidar.
