William Dean Warren (October 14, 1930 - April 22, 2012) is a former Democratic American politician and lawyer, best known for serving as Governor of California from 1979 to 1986 (The terms between Presidents Robert Redford and Stephen Martin), and prior to that serving as the Mayor of San Francisco from 1974 until 1978. Warren was a failed Democratic candidate for President in 1984, and did not run in 1988 as his record was severely tarnished by a variety of scandals in 1985 and 1986 in California.
