Plant growth is affected by gravity by a mechanism called gravitropism. The gravity is felt in plants mainly in the roots. Amyloplast are heavy and are falling at the bottom of the root cells. They squeeze the endoplasmic reticulum which triggers an exit of calcium from the reticulum.
