Marshal McClean is the commanding law officer of Dirty Gulch, as seen in the Sesame Street song "The Dirtiest Town in the West." Before he came, the residents of the town lived in squalor; McClean arrived one day riding his cow (erroneously referred to as a steed by the singing balladeer) and decided that the place was ugly and unhealthy. His efforts proved successful enough that the town had to be renamed. The character is a reference to McCloud, the NBC series which ran from 1970 to 1977 and focused on Marshal Sam McCloud, a modern day cowboy lawman in the city.
