Shiba Hogai was a yojimbo of Asako Kyoji, son of the master of the Asako Libraries at Kyuden Asako. In 1160 Kyoji was exposed as a bloodspeaker and owner of the Ruby of Iuchiban. Hogai knew that Kyoji was tainted and a traitor, but bushido compelled him to honor his vow of service. Hogai protected his lord with his life.
