Journey first three albums were mostly instrumentals. The songs with vocals were handled by Greg Rollie (from Santana, check him out the song "Soul Sacrifice" on the Woodstock movie) . Robert Fleischman was hired for vocal duties (check out his youtube videos, interesting). He was fired in favor of Steve Perry (the great) who led Journey through their glory years. The succeeding vocalists don't really matter as far as I'm concerned. Steve Perry is the only vocalist Journey has known.
