It seems to be a combination of things. 1. * People who don't know the proper spelling and don't bother to check. 2. * Non-native speakers who have more difficulty with recognizing incorrectly spelled words or getting a spelling close enough to look check. English is a notoriously difficult language to spell. It has borrowed words and roots from many different languages, so the rules are complex, and there are many exceptions. 3. * People who make typing mistakes and don't proof-read well enough.
