A terrorist known as Bane has escaped from the prison known as Pena Duro and comes to Gotham with a bid to take down Batman. He conspires with one of Arkham Asylum's psychiatrists Dr. Jonathan Crane in order to instigate a massive jailbreak that he could use to tire Batman out before confronting him himself.
