Link and Gandoorf have a contest to see who's better at games involving four buttons--MADNESS! The four buttons are on a banjo thing, but neither of them know that so they just call it a guitar. Gandoorf loses so he kidnaps Princess Zelda for some reason and Link has to fight him with more banjo power. When he wins, he becomes known as the Hero of Rhyme.
