Before the song officially aired, Daniel Ingram stated that his preferred title for the song was "Ballad of the Crystal Ponies", which is how it appears on the album. A monaural video of the song without the sound effects present in the episode was sent out by The Hub to PixelatedGeek for promotional purposes on July 13, 2012, during the 2012 San Diego Comic-Con. The song has also been released as a sing-along on the DVD My Little Pony Friendship is Magic: Adventures in the Crystal Empire. This song serves as the third track on the album Songs of Ponyville, under the title Ballad of the Crystal Ponies. It also serves as the seventh and final track of side A on the vinyl album Magical Friendship Tour
