The unnamed Mortician was present when Ken Barlow made a formal identification of his daughter Susan's body at the mortuary within Preston General Hospital in February 2001. Having sustained fatal head and chest injuries in a car crash, she was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital. With the identification process complete, the mortician left the room briefly to allow Ken and Deirdre Rachid to have a few moments alone to pay their respects.
