Joserlin was named heir to an Ashkevron cousin who was childless and in poor health. He was fostered with Lord Withen Ashkevron at Forst Reach in order to learn to govern a holding. At the age of eighteen, Joserlin was the oldest of the Forst Reach fosterlings. He roomed with Mekeal. Before arriving at Forst Reach, Joserlin was fostered with Lord Kendrick and trained under his armsmaster, Master Orser. Given that experience, Jos had a very low opinion of Jervis' abilities.
