Darmok of Kanza was a mytho-historical hunter from Shantil III, who once faced a common enemy with Jalad on the island-continent of Tanagra. The event was incorporated into the language of the Tamarians as a metaphor for a situation where communication and understanding was accomplished through shared danger. (TNG: "Darmok" ) This character was only mentioned in dialogue. According to the script , Darmok was pronounced as "dahr-MOCK".
