The ship was then attacked by a U-boat sent by Roberto Rastapopoulos, but the Ramona was then aided by the USS Los Angeles. The submarine's crew made one last attempt to destroy the Ramona by attaching a limpet mine to the boat beside the explosives store, but this failed as the diver carrying the mine was hit by the ship's anchor. A shark swallowed the mine and swam away, causing the shark to blow up and causing confusion to all the characters hours later.
