Henry was married to Françoise Madeleine d'Orléans in September, 1666. Though Françoise's father didn't agree with the marriage the two were in love and John, Henry's father, supported the union. Then in 1704 the couple had a child, though it only survived for two years. The couple then had a succession of bad luck with children and it was only until the couple were almost too old to have children that finally one son survived and he was born in July, 1693.
