Tornac was a servant and skilled swordsman who taught Murtagh the art of swordplay and dueling. He was killed attempting to escape with Murtagh from Urû'baen. In honor of his mentor, Murtagh gave the name 'Tornac' to his gray warhorse. It is later learned that Tornac was like a father to Murtagh and is likely the only parental figure Murtagh recognized. He taught him to be a honorable person and cared for him in Urû'baen. It may be due to his influence that Murtagh became a better person than either of his parents.
