Magiere is given a box by her Aunt Bieja. She is told that the contents of the box are a gift from her father. She is given two amulets. One is topaz: this amulet lights up whenever it is nearby an undead. It is an alarm which senses the existence of a negative pressence. The second amulet is tin with a small bone fragment on it. Because an undead is actually feeding on a life force, it is an empty container that is being filled. The amulet is magically altered and enchanced which allows for a living being to change feeding on blood into feeding on a life force like an undead.
