Supreme Chancellor was the title of the official leader of the Galactic Republic. The office was established in 25,000 BBY with the signing of the Galactic Charter on Coruscant following the conclusion of the Unification War. The holder of the office was the Head of State and Government, as well as the President of the Senate and Senate Chair. The Supreme Chancellor served as Commander and Chief of the Galactic Republic Military by default until the Ruusan Reformation, at which point the military was disbanded and the Supreme Chancellor became primarily a legislative office.
