Caine Powell was a former jewel thief and apparent old paramour of Martha Rodgers’, who inspired a character that Richard Castle used in his novel ‘Storm Rising’. When Castle thanked him in the acknowledgments, he forced Powell to abandon his old life, with Powell settling in a more legitimate business, evaluating and cutting jewels, as well as apparently working as a fence. Castle made contact with him again when investigating high-end robberies, in the hopes of finding additional information about who might fence the items in question.
