Santiago's Caterpillars appeared in Santiago Manuel Rodriguez of uncertain vintage. Though Santiago's favorite pet is Jack Roy, a number of infant caterpillars are shown crawling around a jar with special food. The names of the caterpillars included Mona and Lisa ((a reference to art character actor Mona Lisa) and the handsome Elephant who Santiago identifies an animal name as Lisa's husband. Lisa is on a diet. According to Ana, the caterpillars go "Squeak-squeak-squeak" when conversing.
