Sclerosing cholangitis is a disease where the ducts leading from the liver become inflamed and scarred, preventing fluids from passing through them. It is caused by an autoimmune reaction to the tissues of these ducts. It presents with symptoms typical of diseases of the liver, including fatigue, jaundice and an enlarged liver. The disease cannot be cured except with a liver transplant, but in most cases can be managed with drugs that reduce the inflammation and address the other symptoms of the condition.
