Adèle Starminster was a young journalist who attended Marisa Coulter's cocktail party at her flat in London. Her dæmon took the form of a butterfly. She tried questioning Mrs Coulter's assistant Lyra Silvertongue for details of the woman's personal life, but was soon interrupted by Marisa herself. She was told to leave and did so in a sort of daze.
