An emergency medical technician, or EMT, was a specially-trained individual capable of providing on-the-spot medical care. In 2372, when Joseph Sisko suffered a mild stroke in New Orleans as a result of his atherosclerosis, an EMT tended to him and stated that he was going to make a full recovery. (DS9: "Homefront")
