Jay's Upstairs was a staple of the independent rock, punk, and grunge scene in the Northwest. The infamous Missoula, Montana establishment first opened its doors in 1984 and, after years of competing with various area hotspots, became a stopping point for every up-and-coming band passing through the northern states by the early 1990s. It closed its doors permenantly in 2003, after nearly two decades of hosting thousands of rock, thrash, punk, and variety shows.
