Keraphes was settled during the days of the Old Republic. Originally a breadbasket type world, this changed when large deposits of Inoxium, Beryllium, as well as other necessary materials. This brought a large amount of prospectors and mining companies to the planet, who proceeded to rip apart large tracts of land and develop them for mining. As this work continued, the planet became known for its refineries and exports. A company who would eventually become part of the founding conglomeration of companies that make up MUIR became one of the dominant mining companies, and helped petition the Old Republic for admission into the government, as well as sponsoring Keraphes and the similarly named system as a special economic zone, reducing the costs of doing business on the planet.
