Johnson acted in the 1987 film Off the Mark (with film and series guest actor Michael Berryman). Then came the telefilm Police Story:The Watch Commander(1988, alongside David Graf, Gregg Henry, Carlos LaCamara and Robert Schenkkan. In 1990, Johnson first worked in the drama Muder by Numbers (with Stanley Kamel), then among the Trek alumni in Total Recall. Others included Marc Alaimo, Robert Picardo, Ronny Cox, Roy Brocksmith, Lycia Naff, Robert Costanzo, and Frank Kopyc. Johnson received another telefilm role in 1993's The Poetry Hall of Fame (working with Victor Bevine, LeVar Burton, Richard Kiley, William Shatner and Norman Snow).
