The puppets were built to resemble the band members of The Monkees, Peter Tork, Davy Jones, Michael Nesmith and Micky Dolenz. The name is also a reference to the Benedictine monks who follow the "Rule of Saint Benedict." The order gained notoriety when recordings of their Gregorian chants became a popular and commercial success in the 1990s. The groups' song is a parody of The Monkees' hit, "(Theme from) The Monkees."
