Tomofest is a quadrennial festival held in San Francisco's Japantown district. The inaugural festival occurred in April 2008. Events included bowling, interactive panel discussions, an anime show, a midday party off-site in the Haight-Ashbury district, and participants took in two nights of shows at a nearby club, the Boom-Boom Room. A highlight from the 2008 conference was a late-night impassioned debate during the "Appetite for Nevermind" panel, followed by a visit to a neighborhood ATM to settle a wager that arose during the discussion.
