The term maiden referred to the first of three life-stages of the Sa'ari species. Spanning from sexual maturity at age forty, this stage was characterized by the desire to explore, to try new things, or to actively serve within the community. Maidenhood typically ended around three hundred years of age, or earlier if the Sa'ari mated often, passing on to the matron stage. Fua T'Ooro and Iper T'Royc were both maidens at the time of the arrival of the "Starborne Ones" Laera Reyolé and Silas Dan'kre.
