The 2007 Mexican general election was contested on February 26, 2007 to elect the Congress of Mexico. Led by Vicente Fox, the incumbent Conservative government was returned with a net loss of six seats to decrease their majority. With four seats for the Party of the Revolution and two seats for the Socialist Party, the leftist coalition led by Alejandro Encinas saw the election as a modest success, recouping after some of their losses from four years before. The loss of seats and the expensive, tough reelection campaigns of MCs in some traditionally Conservative regions only continued backbench grumbling about Fox's leadership moving forward, which would prove to be fatal to his political career as Fox was toppled in a leadership election eighteen months later.
