Ilmwatch was large enough to easily support several hundred troops. The soldiers were tasked with protecting merchants traveling to and from Damara as well as those who crossed the Easting Reach to Uthmerg. Patrols regularly scouted the surrounding land, ranging as far as Uthmerg to ensure the safety of the region. Troops of Ilmwatch often accompanied merchants heading south along the Merchant's Run and Herald's Road to the fortress.
