After dissolving relations with the ECAC in 1988 and establishing a permanent administrative office of its own, the conference renamed itself the North Atlantic Conference and began sponsorship of all member sports. The Seaboard merged with the North Atlantic in 1990. During the summer of 1996, the organization was again renamed, and has been the America East ever since.
