The tran-shield anode was a piece of technology developed by Muav Haslev. The anode was a type of transporter that attracted the subspace bosons of a transporter beam, allowing it to beam through a ship's shields, something standard transporters could not do. Unfortunately, the anode caused major disruptions in a starship's operations making it less than useful. (TOS novel: Death Count)
