Genesios was a one-time Avtokrator of Videssos. He overthrew Likinios and, after a six-year reign, was in turn overthrown by Maniakes II. Genesios became the ruler of the Empire of Videssos in the revolt in which Likinios was thrown down when the latter made the army winter north of the Astris River and refused to pay the men. It is unknown if Genesios himself took part in the mutiny or not, but nonetheless he was crowned Avtokrator by the men, even though he was not of noble blood. Geneosis was defeated in civil war by Maniakes and killed after he was caught trying to escape.
