The Imperial German Navy (German: Kaiserlich Marine, "Imperial Navy") is one of the three main branches of the armed forces of Germany (the other being the Imperial Army and Air Force), responsible for defending German territorial waters, transporting troops, and carrying out offensive operations against enemy fleets. It is the successor of the German Navy of the Bundeswehr, the military of the Federal Republic of Germany. It is still informally referred to as the German Navy (Deutsches Marine).
