Hildred Castaigne is in a mental asylum and suffering a disturbing dream of walking through empty streets filled with yellow fog before entering a park and discovering something beneath a mound of bugs. Believing that he has killed his doctor and is about to transform into the King In Yellow, he expires in his sleep, according to an end note by Doctor Robert Krycek, who believes that the thing beneath the mound of bugs was Castaigne himself.
