Lied für einen Freund was the German entry at the Eurovision Song Contest 1988 in Dublin performed by mother and daughter duo Maxi & Chris Garden. The song is a piano-led ballad, with the duo dedicating a "simple and plainspoken" song to a friend - as these are the qualities that he has as well. Maxi and Chris Garden also recorded the song in English (as "Song for a Friend") and French ("Chant pour un ami"). It was performed 11th following host country Ireland and preceding Austria. At the close of voting, it finished in 14th place with 48 points.
