The school is located in Potsdam, New York. The men's team plays in the State University of New York Athletic Conference since the conference started sponsoring men's ice hockey for the 1992-93 season after previously being a member of ECAC West. The men's program dates back to the 1976-77 season. The team played in ECAC's Division II from 1976 to 1985 and then joined ECAC West until the 1992-93 season
