On 22 November 2008 Bristol Rovers hosted Swindon Town in a League One fixture at the Memorial Stadium. The game was Rovers' seventeenth in the league during the 2008-09 season and their twentieth in all competitions. The Rovers starting eleven was unchanged from the previous match, a 2–1 defeat at the hands of Scunthorpe United, but there were two changes on the bench – Joe Jacobson and Sean Rigg both returning from injury layoffs to displace Tom Parrinello and Charlie Reece.
