The Kingdom of Italy (Italian: Regno d'Italia) is the North-Italian successor state to the Kingdom of Piedmont-Sardinia. Forged from the nationalist fervor of the 1848 Revolutions, its armies managed to sweep through the pro-Italian territories occupied by the Hapsburgs. Now one of Germany's closest allies, it still lays claim to the Italian peninsula, and in particular, is eager for war with the French for creating their hated rival, the Papal Protectorate.
