The Wilde Club came into existence on 17th January 1989, promoting literally hundreds of indie/alternative bands, mostly at Norwich Arts Centre, but also at the now defunct Fat Pauly's (also a few at the Waterfront and the Ferryboat) The Club was the Brainchild of Barry Newman aka Baz McHat, and was also run for a while by Oli Redmayne and a host of volunteers. The first night (17/1/1989) was at the Norwich Arts Centre with Shine!, The Bardots, Catapult and 14 Iced Bears. On Saturday 17th January 2009 there will be a gig at Norwich Arts Centre to celebrate the Wilde Club's 20th Anniversary.
