The 4K optical disc format war was between the HVD (Holographic Versatile Disc) and 4K Blu Ray optical disc standards for storing 4K video and audio; it took place between 2019 and 2021 and was won by the HVD. The Blu Ray Form would create the 4K Blu Ray, Sony would purchase and take over the HVD project on February, 16 2017 that seemed pretty much dead. The HVD was used to compete against the 4K Blu Ray, as Sony was fighting in court over infringement on the Blu-Ray standard.
