In 2266 James T. Kirk and Spock donned engineering suits to extract an power rod from the power unit of the USS Enterprise. Even though they wore the suits it was still necessary for them to undergo decontamination after completing the operation. (TOS comic: "UK comic strips, first story arc") The name of this garment is speculative; in the comic Captain Kirk simply describes them as "special clothing".
