Acquis Communautaire refers to the entire corpus of law for the European Union, including all treaties, regulations, and directives adopted by the institutions of European Union in addition to the rulings of the Court of Justice. Every state seeking to join the European Union must explicitly adopt, implement and/or enforce all of it. As it accumulates over time it becomes a larger barrier to joining the European Union.
