Gabrial Atanna's wife was a female Esselian. During the Galactic Civil War, she, along with her grandchildren, were held under house arrest by the Galactic Empire after her husband was caught spying for the Alliance to Restore the Republic. An Alliance team rescued her and the grandchildren and took them to an Alliance safe world.
